The Problem

AI deepfakes and increasingly convincing phishing attacks are making it harder to confirm the identity of people in digital interactions. This creates opportunities for real-time impersonation that can lead to financial loss, security breaches, and erosion of trust. As these threats grow, there is a need for a reliable way to verify someone's identity on demand, using a secure and widely trusted foundation.

The Context

Verifier was born of a hackathon idea in Q3 2024, when a small team set out to solve the growing challenge of instantly confirming someone's identity in the face of increasingly convincing AI deepfakes. The result was a prototype for on-demand identity checks using 1Password as a shared root of trust. Positive feedback propelled it into the new Lab Experiments domain, where it grew into a full-fledged initiative.

The Solution

Verifier enables two people in the same 1Password account to confirm each other's identity on demand, using the app as a secure, shared root of trust. With a simple request-and-approve flow on mobile, it provides instant assurance that the person you're talking to is who they say they are.
